Successful Cases of Circular Economy

AU Optronics / Innolux
Our vision for the  panel industry is one in which producers shoulder their social and environmental responsibilities. We vow to take the lead in applying a circular economy approach, engage in  cradle-to-cradle design, improve the efficiency of raw materials, reduce environmental impact during  the production process, and highlight the importance of circular economy. Through our  extended applications, we work towards  strengthening the industry competitiveness.

Liquid crystal material purification cycle production

Innolux is one of the world’s top four LCD panel suppliers, producing a full range of products ranging from 1.5 inches to 100 inches. When it comes to  the defective or outmoded  LCD panels, , the glass is usually crushed to be repurposed as road building materials, while the rest has to be crushed and buried. The challenge to tackle the increasing amount of waste that comes from  liquid crystal displays  and to develop a more environmentally friendly and valuable recycling, is one which all LCD panel manufacturers have to face.

Liquid crystal extraction and purification of defective panels

Innolux believes that if the liquid crystal in the LCD panel waste can be extracted, it can then be regenerated and repurposed. On top of reducing waste, doing so is  in line with the spirit of a circular economy. If waste  can be recycled and reused, it will bring forth positive economic benefits to the industry. We have invested in the construction of extraction equipment production lines, and our  annual processing capacity of waste LCD panels has reached 3,000 metric tons. In the year of 2020, the extraction center has  processed a total of 1,000 tons of waste LCD glass. In the meantime, we plan to carry out  partial renovations of machines and equipment to increase operational production capacity.
